Why your follow up isn’t working

Is your follow up practice strong, but you’re still not getting the results you need?

You might be following up on the wrong things.

In this week’s class of Pam Slim’s “Tiny Marketing Actions” course, she shared a “CVOO” framework she and Charlie Gilkey use. In short, there are four areas for marketing – and I’d suggest follow up – activity:

  • Cashflow
  • Visibility
  • Opportunities
  • Operations

For this class, “cashflow” is client facing prospecting and following up with paying opportunities. “Visibility” includes things like podcasts, blog posts, and social media. “Opportunities” are things like working with partnerships, referrals, or speaking at events. And “operations,” Pam’s addition to the framework, includes automation, systems, and delegation.

Actions and Goals Alignment

Can you see if you need cashflow but are pursuing being a guest on podcasts, that your follow up is out of alignment with your goals?
Clearly, all four areas are good and needed. But often in life, we need to dance more in one of the areas than the others.

As you approach follow up today, what do you need?

  • Do you need cashflow? Look in your CRM or inbox to follow up with people who’ve asked you questions.
  • Do you need more opportunities? Connect with peers and even friendly competitors.
  • Do you need more people to know you? Then focus on following up the press opportunities, social media shares, and guest podcast or blog post opportunities.

The clarity of this simple framework can show you why your past follow up isn’t giving you the results you want!
