Merge Ahead

When you meet a new ‘natural’ time border, do you spend your time looking forward? Backward? Inward? Outward?

I remember when I was learning to drive, the alarm when my instructor took me to learn to drive on Interstate 95. His directions for merging included continuing to drive straight while looking over my right shoulder to make sure it was safe to merge into traffic (going 50 mph!!!).

Let’s just say that that man – as boring a biology teacher he was – should have been earning more money for his position as driver instructor.

I do NOT know how I managed to learn to hold a vehicle straight, staying safe, looking over my shoulder, gettcity map with a traffic merge signing ready to merge. But now when I drive I wag my head back and forth with barely thinking about it as I navigate all traffic situations. (And let me tell you, traffic situations have changed a whole lot over the years, not to mention the difference from Maine to South Carolina driving!)

This memory has been with me as I look back and look forward into this next calendar year – merging forward while joining some of what is already moving forward and bringing new and renewed hopes and plans with me.

What will keep you steady as you join 2025? What do you need to be aware of over your left (or right, depending where you are driving) shoulder? And what do you see ahead?

Drive safe this year!
